A Peaceful Recipe to Start and End Your Day

Many home cooks desire to be known for their distinctive recipe, like snickerdoodles, peach cobbler, or cheese dip.

Some have even included those foods into their tombs.

Rosie Grant, digital librarian for American Jewish University in Los Angeles and outreach and communications manager at UCLA, says food ties us to someone we miss.

“It links all our senses to that person or memory.”

She began the account in 2021 while taking a social media course for her MLIS, inspired by her internship at the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

After class, she discovered an Atlas Obscura article on a gravestone recipe and made her first film about it.

Grant released a video of herself creating spritz cookies from Naomi Odessa Miller-Dawson's Brooklyn headstone in January 2022.

“I made them very wrong,” she laughs, not knowing how to use a cookie press. She has tried 20 gravestone recipes, mostly desserts acquired online and with followers' aid.
